Introduction 

Who are we? 

We are the United Kingdom Sports Council (“UK Sport”, “we”, “us”), incorporated by Royal Charter with number RC000765, whose registered address is at 6th Floor, 10 South Colonnade, London, E14 4PU (“we”, “our” or “us”). 

Where we decide the means of, or purposes for, processing your personal data, we are the “controller."  


NGBs

The personal data covered in this notice may also be shared with the following National Governing Bodies (the “NGBs”) who will also be controllers of your personal data (although independently and separately to the purposes and activities addressed in this notice). These include:  

  • Skateboard GB Council  
  • British Cycling Council  
  • British Basketball Council 
  • British Mountaineering Council 

In this notice, “NGB Sport” shall refer to the sports which the NGBs are governing bodies for, in the United Kingdom. This includes skateboarding, cycling, basketball and mountaineering. 

If you have any enquiries regarding how your personal data is used by the NGBs, we recommend that you contact them directly.


What’s this notice about? 

This notice explains how we process personal data, as a controller, when individuals (“you” or “your”):   

  • Visit the “Gripped Platform” (at www.gripped.world), and interact with content (including posts, photos and videos) on the Gripped Platform 
  • Follow UK Sport’s or the NGBs’ social media channels (the “Social Media Channels”), or interact with content (including posts, photos and videos) on the Social Media Channels (the “Social Media Content”)  
  • Sign up to receive marketing communications from either UK Sport or the NGBs (the “Marketing Communications”) 
  • Interact with online advertisements which we publish on third-party websites (“Online Ads”) 

We update this notice from time to time, so you should check back in on a regular basis. Where appropriate, we will actively notify you of changes.

Please note that other websites or services mentioned on the Social Media Channels or the Gripped Platform may not be operated by us. You should refer to the privacy notices on those websites to understand how they process personal data. 


What are your rights?

GRIPPED Platform

What information? 

  • “Device data”, which includes the device which you use to access the Gripped Platform, and information relating to such device (including IP address, screen resolution, operating system, and browser type and version). 
  • “Identifiers” used to identify you when you use the Gripped Platform. 
  • “Analytics data”, which includes information about how you interact with content on the Gripped Platform.  


Why are we using this information?

We use this information: (i) to correct technical errors and bugs on the Gripped Platform; (ii) to make technical updates and improvements to the Gripped Platform; and (iii) to understand how you use the Gripped Platform.  


How are we using this information / what is our legal basis for doing so?  

  • Where it is necessary for the performance of the terms which we have in place between us and you.  
  • To pursue our legitimate interests in: growing the NGB Sports’ fanbase in the United Kingdom; and promoting the success of Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom. 
  • To pursue both our and your legitimate interests in ensuring that you are able to access high-quality, engaging and relevant content and services via the Gripped Platform. 


Who are we sharing this information with?

This information is being shared with third-party creative agency Weirdo Limited, who are responsible for hosting and maintaining the Gripped Platform. We may also share this information with relevant NGB Sports. 


How long do we use this information for?

We retain this information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to analyse the performance of the applicable content on the Gripped Platform, implement the relevant updates on the Gripped Platform and resolve the relevant issues on the Gripped Platform. The specific retention period may vary based on factors such as the nature of the information, the nature of your interaction with the content and any applicable legal obligations. 


Social Media Channels

What information? 

  • “Social media identifiers”, which includes the username, handle or ID which you use on the relevant third-party social media platforms. 
  • “Analytics data”, which includes information about how you view, interact with or engage with the Social Media Channels and the Social Media Content.  


Why are we using this information?

We use this information: (i) to understand how you interact with the Social Media Channels and the Social Media Content; and (ii) to monitor the success and performance of the Social Media Channels and the Social Media Content. 


How are we using this information / what is our legal basis for doing so?  

  • To pursue our legitimate interests in: growing the NGB Sports’ fanbase in the United Kingdom; growing the following and engagements of social media channels related to NGB, the NGB Sports’ athletes and the NGB Sports more generally; and promoting the success of Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom. 
  • To pursue both our and your legitimate interests in ensuring that you are able to access high-quality, engaging and relevant Social Media Content.  


Who are we sharing this information with?

This information is being shared with third-party creative agency Weirdo Limited, who are responsible for creating the Social Media Content, and monitoring the success of the Social Media Content. We also share this information with the providers of the relevant third-party social media platforms, on which the Social Media Channels are being accessed (including X Corp. and Meta Platforms, Inc.) We may also share this information with NGB Sports. 


How long do we use this information for?

We retain this information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to analyse the performance of the applicable Social Media Content, respond to enquiries, and improve our marketing strategies. The specific retention period may vary based on factors such as the nature of the information, the nature of your interaction with the Social Media Content, any applicable legal obligations and the retention policies of relevant third-party social media platforms. 


Marketing Communications

What information?  

  • “Contact information”, which includes your name and email address. 
  • “Subscriber preferences”, which includes your choices and settings regarding the types of communications which you’d like to receive from UK Sport or the NGBs.  


Why are we using this information?

We use this information to send you newsletters, updates and other communications relating to UK Sports, the NGBs or the NGB Sports. 


How are we using this information / what is our legal basis for doing so?

In some cases, we process this information where you have given your consent to us doing so. We may also process this information: 

  • To pursue our legitimate interests in: growing the NGB Sports’ fanbase in the United Kingdom; delivering more personalised, relevant and effective Marketing Communications to individuals who are interested in the NGB Sport; and promoting the success of Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom. 
  • To pursue both our and your legitimate interests in ensuring that you are able to access high-quality, engaging and relevant Marketing Communications.


Who are we sharing this information with?

This information is being shared with third-party creative agency Weirdo Limited, who are responsible for creating the Marketing Communications, and monitoring feedback on the Marketing Communications. We may also share this information with NGB Sports.

Until you tell us you no longer wish to receive the Marketing Communications.

What information?  

  • “Identifiers” which are used to identify you when you interact with the Online Ads. 
  • “Analytics data”, which includes information about how you interact with the Online Ads.  


Why are we using this information?

We use this information: (i) to serve you more relevant Online Ads; and (ii) to understand how the performance of the Online Ads.  


How are we using this information / what is our legal basis for doing so?

We process this information where you have given your consent to us doing so. 

 

Who are we sharing this information with?

This information is being shared with third-party creative agency Weirdo Limited, who are responsible for creating the Online Ads, and monitoring the success of the Online Ads. In order to measure engagements and interactions with the Online Ads, we use third-party advertising networks. And, when managing and serving the Online Ads, we use certain services made available by Google LLC and Meta Platforms, Inc.  


How long do we use this information for?

We retain this information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to analyse the performance of the Online Ads. The specific retention period may vary based on factors such as the nature of the information, the nature of your interaction with the Online Ads, any applicable legal obligations, and the retention policies of the applicable third-party advertising networks, ad serving providers and ad management providers.
